How You Can Help

Make a Donation

EVERY PENNY MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

dog-1Money can’t buy love, but it can buy food, treats, medicine and shelter, which to a homeless pet sure feels a lot like kisses. As a non-profit organization, we rely on donations from animal lovers like you to continue our lifesaving mission. Every dollar helps save lives. By making a contribution today, you are helping to save the lives of orphaned animals in our community.

You can send us a financial donation online with Cayman Gift Certificates. Just click the button below, add your donation amount to your cart and check out to send us your donation!

Fundraise For Us

We welcome supporters to fundraise for us. In fact, we have some great young supporters out there who love to fundraise for the animals at the shelter. Fundraising events have included bake sales, donations instead of gifts at children’s birthday parties, contents of piggy banks and lemonade stands.

Become a Member

Every year our supporters are invited to become members of the Cayman Islands Humane Society. For CI $40 you can choose to become either an Associated Member (for people who live outside of the Cayman Islands but still want to stay involved) or a full Member.

As a Member you will receive monthly newsletters with updates on everything that has been going on in the shelter from the previous month along with information regarding our future events. You will also have the opportunity to attend the annual general meeting where you will be able to vote on the key issues impacting the work that we do.

The support of our members, donors and fundraisers is vital to the survival of the shelter. Please stop by the shelter to pick up a membership form today or contact our membership secretary Laura Medley at lauramedley_7@hotmail.com for further information about becoming a member.

Foster Care

almond-optFrom time to time, we are in need of volunteers willing to foster pets with special needs. It is critical that we find foster homes for these pets so that their needs may be adequately addressed. The most frequently fostered pets are nursing kittens, puppies and adult dogs that have suffered from abuse, injury, or are receiving heartworm treatment. If you are interested, please click the button below to contact us or stop by the shelter.

Volunteer

We love volunteers! The shelter could not operate without them.

These critical individuals assist our organisation through activities such as dog walking, cat wellness, administrative support, special events, fundraising, education, volunteer coordination, fostering, advocacy, and so much more. They may be called volunteers, but to our staff and animals, they are heroes. In every capacity they serve, volunteers are a highly valued resource to our society and are making a very real difference to the lives of so many animals.

If you love animals and can spare some time, we have a volunteer opportunity right for you! Please click the button below to contact us or stop by the shelter.

Dog Walking

dog-walkingWe welcome dog walkers every day. Our dogs need to get out of the shelter as much as possible to stretch their legs, get some exercise and roll in the grass. Volunteers and visitors to the island love to come and walk our dogs, get some exercise and receive licks in return!

Dog walkers can come any time from 8 am onwards. It is better to come in the mornings when it is not too hot. If that’s not possible then we accept dog walkers until 5pm on weekdays. On the weekends there are regular dog walkers available to help you if you would like that. They are generally arriving from 8am onwards so we can always pair you up with a regular dog walker. Dog walking finishes at 12 noon on Sundays.

Many of our dogs like to be out of the shelter for as long as possible. If you are a confident dog walker then you might want to take them to the beach or to Camana Bay for socializing. Shelter staff will be able to advise you as to which dog would love to come out for an adventure. Some dogs are sick or are nervous with strangers and would need a short walk only. Again, staff will be able to advise you.

Our dog walkers love to take the dogs to the playing field which is a 3 minute walk away (across the main road). Once the gate is closed dogs can be off-leash enjoying some time running and playing. Please remember to take some poop bags as it is a dog walker’s responsibility to pick it up!

Get fit today, walk a dog and play!

Beach Training

We are always looking for volunteers to train the shelter dogs. Beach training is held just outside Calico Jacks on Public Beach every Sunday at 11am. It is run by Kenneth Morgan, dog trainer.

Beach Training

Beach Training

You will learn how to train your dog to socialize with other dogs, be comfortable with leash walking, and learn some basic commands like sit, lie down and stay. You can then enjoy some social time with your dog on the beach familiarizing them with this important part of island life and teach them to swim. The idea behind is that if your dog is used to being around dogs and other people and knows some basic commands then they are more adoptable. This also gives the dogs a much needed break from shelter life and an opportunity to meet potential adopters on the beach.

Please contact Susan Gabruch (email) if you plan to attend and she will confirm the venue and date.

The shelter depends on several different avenues of support. At the Thrift Shop, you can purchase gently used clothes, toys, house wares, small appliances and even furniture at bargain prices. The revenue from sales helps with veterinary care, shelter and food for the animals.

Occasionally, the Thrift Shop auctions special items of greater value on ecay trade. Notifications for such items are generally posted in our recent posts and/or through our Facebook page.

THRIFT SHOP DONATIONS
If you are not able to make it during store hours, please be sure to put items into the drop off bin in front of the shelter (marked for Thrift Shop drop off). If you have items that will not fit into the box easily/safely and would like us to pick them up, please call 945 5596. Unfortunately, theft is a problem when things are left out front after hours and we need all the help raising money that we can get! Thank you for your support!

THE THRIFT SHOP NEEDS YOUR HELP!
We need help in all areas – sorting, pricing, displaying, selling. We especially need help on Saturdays, but we can use you during the week as well. The Thrift Shop and the Book Loft make it possible for us to help the homeless animals of Cayman. If you are able to give a little time, please give us a call at 945 5596.
